Con Chapman

Boston-area writer Con Chapman has spent over a decade researching the history of boxing and its broader cultural significance — culminating in the publication of his fourth Book, Queer Street: The Curious Connections Between Boxing and the Homoerotic (Lutterworth Press).  In addition to Queer Street, he is the author of Sax Expat: Don Byas (University Press of Mississippi), Rabbit’s Blues: The Life and Music of Johnny Hodges (Oxford University Press), and Kansas City Jazz: A Little Evil Will Do You Good (Equinox Publishing) —books that bring to life underrecognized figures in American jazz.

In 2019, Chapman received the Book of the Year Award from the Hot Club de France for Rabbit’s Blues, and in 2024, Kansas City Jazz was nominated for Book of the Year About Jazz History and Culture by the Jazz Journalists Association. His work has appeared in The Atlantic, The Boston Globe Magazine, and numerous literary journals.
