Josh Beach

J.M. Beach, founder and Director of 21st Century Literacy, is a scholar, a teacher, an entrepreneur, an investor, and a poet.  He is the author of 12 books including, most recently, Can We Measure What Matters Most? Why Educational Accountability Metrics Lower Student Learning and Demoralize Teachers and The Myths of Measurement and Meritocracy: Why Accountability Metrics in Higher Education are Unfair and Increase Inequality (Rowman & Littlefield, fall 2021). A member of the American Educational Research Association and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Beach conducts scholarly research on the philosophy of knowledge, the science of culture and society, the history and philosophy of education, and the cultural significance of literature. He served for 20 years as a lecturer in higher education in the U.S., South Korea, and China and he holds advanced degrees in the fields of English, History, Philosophy, and Education.  Currently, Beach is completing degrees in Business Administration and Marketing.  He lives with his family in Austin, TX.
